Houston, we have a problem*

I didn't want to write this post and I certainly didn't want to write that cliched title. But it must be done. As you know, the space program is coming to an end, and today it was decided which cities were going to get a shuttle. Houston, Texas is not on that list. Houston, home of Mission Control, will NOT have a space shuttle. This is heart breaking, absolutely ridiculous, and just plain sad.

You said it Jack Swigert...

*Yes, I know the quote is "Houston, we've had a problem here".

Yes it does suck. And I am sure husband will not remember this but the first test shuttle, Enterprise, was at the New Orleans World's Fair...husband was still in a stroller at the time....

Just wanted to say I stumbled across your blog and am enjoying it very much--in part because I am a left-leaning democrat who came of age in the late 80s/early 90s :-) but more because your writing is clear and direct and your posts are heartfelt. I look forward to reading future posts!

@Papa, I will have to remind him of that time and see if he has any memory of it. I'm so upset that a shuttle won't be coming here, but maybe next time you guys come to town, and we can head over to NASA and see the exhibits!
