I made soft pretzels from scratch. Me. The girl who loves to bake, but from a box. Baking is like gardening to me, it's kind of miraculous. You mix up ingredients, throw it in an oven, and it comes out as something completely different, unlike the consistency of any of the ingredients.

No, they don't look exactly right, but that's not really the point, is it? Sometimes, when I bake or cook from scratch, I wonder about who I have become. I had the same big dreams as most other girls, move to the big city (New York specifically) and have some big career. Do I regret not following through with that? No way. Husband is worth so much more, and if I had left, I wouldn't have him. But sometimes southern Louisiana just feels like a rope around my throat. I can't even go into all the absolutely ignorant nonsense I hear on a daily basis from people. I know, I know, there are those people every where, but Louisiana seems to have more than their fair share. I've hidden so many people's status updates on Facebook that I barely see anything anymore. So much political nonsense. I'm all about having different opinions, but when they are based on absolute untruths, what's the point? Why put forth the effort to fight for an idea if you don't know the facts that you're basing it on?

This post quickly went from baking to politics. Sigh.

That looks seriously yummy! I can totally understand how a discussion of baking could turn political. You could do a whole post on the politics of baking:)

My baking never looks pretty either, but it tastes yummy! (and your pretzels are making me drool! lol)

I was on the phone with someone earlier and I just wanted to pound my head against the wall - why can't people think for themselves? It's not that hard - read! learn! Geez...

Can I have one please they look so delicious!!

I too was going to grow up, get a fabulous job and travel the world.

But, here I be in Oklahoma. Trust me I know what you are talking about.

But, like you, my hubby is worth it and I wouldn't change it if I could.

That is unless I could talk him into moving back to Maine. But, the cost of living there is way too expensive.

But, I miss The Hannaford Brothers Grocery stores and of course my grand sons!!:-)))

I think it's great that you made pretzels; mix or not. As for your other challenge, I think we've all had to deal with people like that. I think it was Ghandi who said, "Be the change you want to see in the world." Sometimes we just have to agree to disagree. It might not always make you popular, but to thine own self be true right? Keep up the great blog. I really like it.

So what your saying is that Louisiana is exactly like south Australia :) I know how you feel. I also had the New York dream but I'm much further away. I'm also surrounded by pinheads. Those pretzels are making me drool
